Do you need more space? Many of us could always use a little extra room. If you have an attic, why not make the most of it. Attics make nice guest rooms, recreation rooms or just big storage rooms. This is a great time to have that folding ladder installed. Folding attic ladders are great to pull down and fold back up whenever you choose. I call it the staircase in demand. Just use it when you need it. In order to use your extra space, some type of entry system must be installed and I can’t think of a better one.

Folding attic ladders are generally made from fiberglass, wood, or metal. Just as there are different materials in which folding attic ladders are made, there are also a couple of different styles to choose. The style you choose ultimately depends on the home and the primary use for your folding attic ladders. There is the regular folding style ladder and the sliding style of ladders. All fold up easily and are hardly detectable. Another great feature is the fact they are not always in the way.

Here are the tools needed to install folding attic ladders: Step ladder, flashlight, hammer, goggles, dust mask, gloves, drywall saw, hand saw, tape measure, and framing square.
The materials needed for folding attic ladders are: Attic stairs, 16p nails or 3″ wood screws, 20p nails, joist-size framing lumber, 1″x 4″ boards, and wood shims.

Always remember when installing folding attic ladders to follow all manufacturers’ instructions and use all safety precautions necessary. Keep in mind the type of roof framing in the home, select the stairs with the proper weight rating for your situation, and never assume your attic floor is sturdy before checking it out.
